Underworks Binders Reviewed — Econo, Tri-Top, Cotton Concealer & More
Best Underworks Binders for Trans Men & Trans Masc People
Four Underworks styles reviewed — who each one is built for, how they compare, and how to choose the right one for your chest size and daily routine.
Underworks has been a go-to for chest binders in the trans masc community for a long time — partly because they're accessible, partly because they're affordable, and partly because they actually work. But they make a lot of products, and not all of them are suited for trans men, trans masculine, non-binary, and gender expansive people who need meaningful chest compression.
Here's the breakdown of the Underworks binders available at Transguy Supply — what makes each one different, who it's built for, and where to start if you're not sure.
1. Econo Series Chest Binder & Tank
The Econo lives up to its name — it's the most affordable Underworks binder and a solid starting point for people new to binding or with smaller chests. Made from 70% nylon, 30% spandex with a cotton lining on the interior for comfort. The compression front is a single layer of fabric — less powerful than the multi-layer styles, but still meaningful for everyday use.
The Econo also comes in a tank top style if you want full-length coverage. The crop version ends at the lower ribcage; the tank extends to the waist and doubles as a base layer. Both are the right call for smaller chest sizes or anyone who wants to try binding before committing to a more structured option.
The tradeoff: Single-layer construction means it won't last as long as multi-panel options under daily wear. If you're binding every day with a larger chest, it may compress less over time faster than the Tri-Top or Cotton Concealer.
2. Tri-Top Chest Binder
The Tri-Top looks nearly identical to the Econo from the outside — but inside, the front panel has three layers of compression fabric instead of one. That difference is significant. It's noticeably more powerful than the Econo and is the right pick for larger chests or anyone who needs serious flattening for everyday wear.
Same 70% nylon, 30% spandex construction, short crop cut, and it comes in at roughly $12 more than the Econo. For most people who need real compression, that's a straightforward trade worth making.
The tradeoff: The triple-layer compression takes time to break in, and the armholes can chafe early on. Wear it for shorter periods at first and let the fabric adjust to your body. Once broken in, it wears comfortably for a full day.
3. Cotton Concealer Binder (Underworks 988)
The Cotton Concealer is one of our all-time favorite Underworks binders — and the most comfortable one on this list. It's a long tank style with two layers of nylon/spandex compression in the chest panel plus a third layer of cotton/spandex blend. The result is meaningful compression with a significantly softer feel than the Tri-Top.
The long cut makes it versatile as a base layer — tuck it into jeans or shorts to keep the sides of your torso smooth and prevent ride-up during the day. The thick, strong seams make it one of the more durable options in the Underworks lineup. It will show slightly under a tight shirt, but to any casual observer it reads as a normal undershirt.
The tradeoff: Cotton retains heat. In summer or warm climates, the Cotton Concealer isn't your best bet — it runs warm compared to the all-synthetic options. Our recommendation: use this as your cooler weather daily driver and swap to a lighter binder for summer.
Quick Comparison — All Styles
| Binder | Compression | Cut | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Econo Top | Single layer | Crop | Beginners, smaller chests, budget |
| Econo Tank | Single layer | Long tank | Same as Econo Top with full-length coverage |
| Tri-Top | Triple layer | Crop | Larger chests, maximum flattening |
| Cotton Concealer | Two layer + cotton | Long tank | All-day comfort, cooler weather, base layering |
Measure your chest at the fullest point and use our Binder Size Chart to find your size. When between sizes, always size up — a slightly larger size still compresses effectively and will be significantly more comfortable over a full day of wear.
Underworks is a solid choice — especially as a first binder or as a budget-friendly everyday option. If you're ready to explore higher-compression or more breathable styles, our full binder collection includes TGS cotton and maximum compression binders designed specifically for trans masc, non-binary, and gender expansive people in XS through 5XL.
