Billy Tipton - Trans Trailblazer Series - T-Shirt
by TG Supply
$23.50William Lee Tipton - "Billy" - was an American jazz musician. He began his music career in the 1930s as a bandleader for broadcast radio. In the 1940s, he toured the Midwest with various dance bands and in 1957 recorded two successful albums: Sweet Georgia Brown and Billy Tipton Plays Hi-Fi on Piano.
The success of the albums led to several offers - including the chance to record four more. However, Tipton rejected all offers and settled down in Spokane, WA. He thereafter worked as a talent broker and performed weekly with his trio. Due to worsening arthritis, Tipton's performance career ended in the late 1970s.
Tipton kept his trans status hidden from most people, including his partners and adopted children.
