To say Harry Livingston was a troublemaker in his time would be a gross understatement. In and out of jail, often for "disturbing the peace," (read that as code for "dressing like a man") Harry was a subject of fascination for reporters in his native Pacific Northwest. The front pages of the Seattle and Spokane papers often featured handsome Harry.
Some of the sensationalized headlines used to describe Livingston include "Woman Who Dresses in Male Attire Starts Story She is a "Real Man"; Rumor Causes Sensation; Sheriff Stone Brands Statement an Untrue Fabrication Result of Liquor" and "Trousered Woman Bites Policeman."
During his short, rough life, the real Harry Livingston wore a number of hats - ranch hand, bronco buster, longshoreman, bartender, boxing second, and hotel clerk. Throughout it all, Harry publically proclaimed his identity and took serious offense when the police and press misgendered him.
